Adventures on Mainland Greece
Tour/workshop: This is a twelve day in-country tour (12 days and 11 nights) with all in-country travel and lodging included. You are responsible for your own international flight and getting to and from the tour. Plan to arrive at least a day early and depart after (not on) the final day of the tour.
Overview: The classical antiquity of the Mediterranean region covers a period of time that started 2800 years ago in the 8th century before the common era, referred to as the Archaic period, and ends with the closing of the Academy of Athens in the year 529. It’s a timespan that covers over 1300 years of Greek history… a period filled with famous arts, architecture, teachers, philosophers, poets and playwrights. It’s a period that fills the imagination and delights the senses. The Greek mainland is often overlooked by tourists seeking the sun of those beautiful, sun-drenched Greek islands, but it is not to be overlooked by those eager to experience the long rich history of this country. Greece is considered to be the cradle of Western civilization, and the mainland offers countless opportunities for historical adventure. Athens, Olympia, Delphi, Peloponessos, Mystras and Sparta are just a few of the mainland locations that should stir your imagination.

Travel, lodging and food: Travel during the tour itself will be arranged and provided for by your trip leader. We will travel primarily by bus and train while in-country. Lodging during the tour is also included with reservations at local pensions and hotels. The goal is to have a high quality of lodging while staying in locally run businesses to give us a more authentic experience of the local culture while also supporting the local businesses of the locations we visit. Breakfast will be provided during every day of the tour. Half of the lunches and half of our dinners will also be provided. This will allow for some additional freedom to explore local cuisines and either get some alone time or enjoy forming bonds with select members of the trip. Dinners will also be planned in this respect.
What to bring: It’s important that you travel light while on this trip. We will be moving between multiple base locations by bus or train, and you will need to be able to move all of your possessions at once and sometimes over a bit of distance. A backpacker’s pack along with a single manageable wheeled piece of luggage is appropriate. You should also have a day pack for your camera and odds and ends for day excursions while your main bags are back at the hotel. Bring your digital SLR camera and a tripod. Additional equipment to consider: extra batteries, memories cards (enough for 12 days of shooting or a way to download them onto a drive), international adapters for your charger, remote release cable for your camera, filters; rain protection, comfortable walking shoes, layered clothing and any clothes you will want on the trip. A debit card for international ATMs along with proper ID is necessary.
Reservations: $3,650 per person (single supplement $650.00 additional). Includes all accommodations during the tour, a majority of the meals, in-country transportation and extras per the itinerary and inclusions shown in this description. Cost does not include international airfare, gratuities, departure taxes, alcoholic beverages or items of a personal nature. Tickets must be paid in full at least 90 days in advance of the travel dates. The tour is limited to participants ages 18+ and the group size is limited to 10 people to allow for lots of one-on-one photography mentoring during the trip.
Deposits and cancellations: A 25% deposit will secure your space in this tour/workshop prior to the full payment deadline. Full payment must be received at least 90 days prior to the workshop. If you need to cancel your reservation, notice of your cancellation must be received via email with the following refunds offered: 90 days or more before workshop: Full fees paid will be refunded minus a $50 processing fee. 89 to 45 days before workshop: A maximum of 50% of the full workshop price (see note below) will be refunded. 44 or fewer days before workshop: no refund (see note below). *Please Note: If you must forfeit your workshop fee, we will refund your full payment, minus a $250 cancellation fee, if we can fill your spot with a new paying participant. In this instance, a credit for the balance of your forfeiture will be issued to be used on another workshop and is good for two years. If the credit is not used within two years it will be forfeited. No partial refunds are made for unused portions or services of a workshop. If a workshop is cancelled by tour operators for any reason, you will receive a full refund of any fees paid.
