Sonoma Coast State Park
Highway 1 runs just over 655 miles from end to end along the Pacific Coast and is one of the most spectacular scenic highways in the world. While you can experience majestic beauty on much of this West Coast marvel, there are few places more beautiful than the Sonoma Coast State Parks region. Mammoths are believed to have roamed this area as recently as 40,000 years ago with fossil remains having been found at Bodega Head at the south end of the park.
Starting in San Francisco, we will make our way North along the Marin Headlands passing by the towering Mt Tamalpais playground that overlooks Stinson Beach and Bolinas Lagoon. From there we will briefly jut inland past the coastline of Point Reyes National Seashore and the Point Reyes Peninsula on our way to Sonoma. Joining the coast again at Bodega Bay, we make our way quickly to the Sonoma Coast State parks in all their magical wonder. Here we’ll find some of the most secluded and beautiful beaches of the Pacific Coast. We’ll have the chance to see abundant wildlife, seasonal wildflowers and even visit beautiful coastal redwoods for a full ecological experience.
In this three-day excursion, you will be joined by a professional photographer who will guide you to some of the most photographic spots along the route while also helping you learn the inner workings of your camera and offering tips on how to create stunning landscape images. We will explore the coastline at various times of the day and practice photographic exercises to help you learn how to create those postcard-worthy images that last a lifetime. We’ll look at long exposure techniques as well as macro photography and wide angle landscape compositions. Grab your backpack, your camera and a comfortable pair of shoes and get ready for the trip of a lifetime. RT transportation from San Francisco is included. (Food and lodging not included.)
