Big Picture Competition

When working full-time at the California Academy of Sciences, I designed this international photography competition to help raise awareness of climate issues and enter the Academy into a global conversation about issues that impact wildlife and habitats around the world.

To launch this project, I recruited an in-house team of marketers, exhibit designers, and technical staff to support different aspects of the competition. I built the original website in 2013 (since redesigned) that incorporates a submission process for receiving images, payments, and recording relevant submission data.

Featured Functionality and Integrations

  • The competition makes use of a website for attracting visitors, conveying completion parameters, and displaying winning images.
  • There’s an integrated payment system for receiving competition entry fees.
  • Images are automatically entered into a judging platform to be shared with judges located remotely around the world.
  • Winning images are entered into a digital assets management system to be delivered to exhibit designers and marketers alike.
  • There is a robust email marketing platform for delivering information about the competition, to the photographers, press, and exhibit guests.
